AI in Massachusetts

Governor Maura Healey's Executive Order 629 (February 15, 2024) created the Artificial Intelligence Strategic Task Force, whose December 2024 recommendations led to the Massachusetts AI Hub run by the MassTech Collaborative, which funds applied AI grants such as the Applied AI Models Innovation Challenge. The Executive Office of Technology Services and Security issued an Enterprise Use and Development of Generative AI Policy (January 2025), and in February 2026 the state began deploying a ChatGPT-based AI assistant to nearly 40,000 executive branch employees. The Executive Office of Education launched a Principles of AI curriculum pilot reaching about 1,600 students in 30 districts in fall 2025.
