On September 16, 2026 the Florida State Board of Education adopted statewide rules for AI in classrooms from VPK through college, requiring districts, charter schools and state colleges to adopt AI policies, notify parents and obtain opt-in for AI instructional tools, and banning companion-style AI and the sale of student data; K-12 schools have until July 1, 2027 to comply. In the 2026 legislative session an 'Artificial Intelligence Bill of Rights' (CS/SB 482) passed the Senate 35-2 but died in the House in March 2026. In October 2026 the Florida Department of Education and Florida Atlantic University announced LEAP-AI, a three-year, $5.7 million federally funded effort to prepare teachers and principals to use AI.
